5 Holiday Cocktails That Will Make You Feel Like a Fancy Queen
Eggnog, schmegnogg. Delight and impress your guests with something different to sip on this season. Whether you want to fancy up your bubbly or serve some new boozy options, these five delicious recipes from Gates Otsuji, chef de bar (a.k.a. the inventor of delicious cocktails) at The Standard High Line, will show off your bartending skills and make your holiday party a hit. We’ll cheers to that!
Pour a few drops ofgrenadineinto a chilled coupe glass, followed by 1/2 ozCrème Yvette. Top withChampagneandgrapefruit zest.
In a large glass (or pitcher), add 2 dashesAngostura bitters, 1 ozsweet vermouth(Carpano Antica if you like it rich, Dolin Rouge if you like it herbaceous), and 2 ozrye whiskey(Bulleit Rye is recommended). Stir well, and strain into chilled coupe glasses over ice. Garnish each drink with acherry.
The Lion In Winter
Dissolve 1/2 tsp sugarin 1/4 ozlemon juice, and pour over ice in a shaker. Add 2 dashesAngostura bitters, 1/4 ozLicor 43, and 2 ozwhiskey(Johnnie Walker Red Label is recommended). Shake to chill, strain into a rocks glass. Garnish withorange zest.
Deep, Dark Hot Chocolate
For each serving, melt about 1 1/2 oz of66 percent dark chocolatein a pan until it begins to melt. Stir in 8 ozwhole milkper serving until it’s thoroughly mixed. In mugs, add 1/2 ozGreen Chartreuse and 1 1/2 ozdark rum(Diplomatico is recommended). Add 8 oz of your hot chocolate mixture to each mug, top with whipped cream, and serve immediately.
In mugs, pour 2 ozmezcal(El Buho is recommended, although bourbon or vodka could also work if you don’t like smoky flavors). Make a batch of whipped cream by whisking 2 TbspNutellawith 1 quartheavy creamat a high speed. Set aside in refrigerator. For each serving, place 3banana slicesin a pan, and gently crush them. Add 8 ozwhole milkper serving, and warm the pan over medium heat. Use a whisk to incorporate 1 Tsbppeanut butterper serving, taking care not to let the milk boil. When the mixture is thoroughly combined, add 8 oz to each mug (on top of the liquor) and top with your Nutella whipped cream. You can garnish withbanana slicesorstrawberriesif you'd like.
