Cooler Cleanse: Detox Diet Trial
DAYS UNTIL THE WEDDING: 120I'm not a fan of juice-only detox diets. Yes, I've tried a cleanse here and a cleanse there, but I always find myself MISERABLE during it. When I came across 's raw cooler, a detox diet where you actually get to eat, I decided to give it a try. I am, after all, on a quest to become wedding fit! Here's my experience…
First Juice: Young Coconut WaterIngredients:100 percent pure, raw, young thai coconut waterI drank this before my morning workout. It was refreshing, and nothing too crazy for my taste buds that early (5AM!) in the morning.
Second Juice: Essential RedIngredients:carrot, beet, apple, lemonWhen I got to work, tired from working out, I definitely needed something. While this was much lighter than my normal breakfast of either Fiber One cereal or Greek yogurt and fruit, it actually filled me up…for a little bit at least.
Snack: Cauliflower CouscousIngredients:cauliflower, sun-dried tomatoes, carrot, parsley, lemon, dates, cilantro, oregano, hemp seeds, coriander seed, garlic, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, black pepper, sea saltWhen it came time to chew something, I was thrilled! I admit, I savored each bite like it was my last meal, and it tasted so good. This snack came right around the time I started to get a little irritable (I'm mean when I'm hungry).
Third Juice: Essential GreenIngredients:cucumber, celery, parsley, spinach, kale, dandelion greens, watercress, pear, lemon, gingerWith my stomach starting to rumble, I put a lot of faith into this juice. Sadly, I did not like the taste of this one, but I drank every last drop to stay on the plan.
Entrée: Sunflower FalafelIngredients:sunflower seeds, walnuts, red onion, garlic, tahini, lemon, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, scallion, parsley, coriander seed, cumin, cayenne, cucumber, tomato, romaine, wheat-free tamari, paprika, apple cider vinegar, black pepper, sea saltAs soon as I got home from work, I kissed Brian and tore into my falafel. As he watched me chow down with a smirk and asked "how's the cleanse going?", I smiled with a falafel-filled mouth and said, "great!"
Dessert: Apple PieIngredients:apples, raw almonds, dates, agave, lemon juice, lemon zest, vanilla bean, cinnamon, nutmeg, sea saltYum, yum, yum! This is by far my favorite meal of the day (normally! I have a major sweet tooth). After the dessert, I actually felt great.
At the end of the day, I did not go to bed hungry, and this morning I had tons of energy during my personal training session. The worst part was in the afternoon. I normally have a big lunch, and I definitely missed that.
