The Gift This Father Gave His Daughter Is Outrageous
It's a familiar scene: Your daughter stands above her "kingdom" of the living room in her best fluffy pink dress and plastic tiara, asking you to play princess. You agree—but that's as close as most kids ever come to being royalty.
Not so for Emily Heaton, whose dad Jeremiah, took the 7-year-old's wish to become a princess to the extreme.
"As a parent, you sometimes go down paths you never thought you would," Heaton toldThe Washington Post. And that's exactly how he ended up traveling to Africa to find an unclaimed 800-square-mile patch of desert where he planted a flag—designed by Emily and her two siblings—on what they call the "Kingdom of North Sudan."
"I wanted to show my kids I will literally go to the ends of the earth to make their wishes and dreams come true," Heaton said.
As parents, we all hope to do that, which is why we think Heaton's intentions were nothing but good. However, in this case, a trip to the toy store for a new sparkly wand might been more appropriate.
